1. Who we are
“Ipswich Insider” is an independent newsletter and website published from Ipswich, Queensland, Australia. Our site is https://ipswichinsider.com.au.
2. The short version
We collect only the personal information reasonably needed to:
- send and manage the newsletter you asked for,
- run polls, reader surveys, competitions and giveaways,
- process voluntary contributions and supporter payments,
- understand how people use our website and newsletter,
- measure and improve our advertising and marketing, and
- run, improve and protect Ipswich Insider.
We do not sell or rent your personal information.
3. What we collect
- Newsletter details – your email address and, if you provide it, your name.
- Survey, poll and giveaway details – information you provide through forms, including your name, email address, suburb, preferences, opinions, free-text responses and giveaway eligibility confirmations. Some forms may also save partial responses before you submit the completed form.
- Information included in links – some newsletter links may include your email address or another identifier so a form can be pre-filled or matched to your subscription.
- Supporter and transaction details – your name, email address, contribution amount, transaction date and payment status. Full payment card details are handled by the payment provider and are not received or stored by us.
- Browsing and device data – pages viewed, approximate location, browser and device information, referrer information and similar usage data.
- Marketing and advertising data – events such as page views, visits, form interactions and link clicks collected through advertising and analytics tools.
- Email engagement data – opens, clicks, bounces, unsubscribes and related newsletter activity.
- Messages you send us – if you email us or otherwise contact us, we collect the information included in your message.
4. How we collect and use data
- Kit helps us manage subscriptions, send newsletters and process some supporter payments.
- Tally helps us run surveys, forms, competitions and giveaways.
- Google Analytics 4 helps us understand how people use the website and improve its performance.
- Ahrefs Web Analytics helps us measure website traffic, page views and interactions.
- Meta Pixel helps us measure advertising performance and improve future campaigns.
- Kit Commerce, Buy Me a Coffee and their payment providers help process voluntary contributions and supporter payments.
- Cookies and similar technologies are used to remember preferences, measure traffic and support advertising and analytics.
Some newsletter links include your email address or another identifier in the page address so a form can be pre-filled or matched to your subscription. The website, hosting provider and analytics services can process this page address.
Some Tally forms are configured to save partial responses. This means answers may be stored after you begin entering them, even if you leave without pressing the final submit button.
We use collected information to:
- deliver and manage the newsletter,
- administer surveys, competitions and giveaways,
- verify entries and contact winners,
- analyse reader interests and improve our content,
- publish combined or de-identified survey and poll results,
- process contributions and maintain transaction records,
- measure website, newsletter and advertising performance,
- communicate with readers, and
- maintain the security and operation of our services.
When a competition winner is announced, we may publish the winner’s first name and suburb. We may also publish de-identified comments or survey responses. We will ask before publishing an identifiable quote or response.
Personal information is mainly held in password-protected cloud services. We limit access to people and providers who need it to operate Ipswich Insider.
5. Who we share data with
We disclose personal information to service providers where needed to operate Ipswich Insider, including:
- Google LLC – analytics and related services.
- Meta Platforms, Inc. – advertising and ad measurement services.
- Kit, Inc. – newsletter management, email delivery and supporter payments.
- Tally BV – surveys, forms, competitions and giveaways.
- Ahrefs Pte. Ltd. – website analytics.
- Pressable, Inc. – website hosting, delivery and security services.
- Buy Me a Coffee and payment providers – processing voluntary contributions and related transactions.
We may share combined or de-identified results with readers, advertisers, sponsors or partners. We do not give sponsors or advertisers identifiable survey responses unless this is clearly disclosed when the information is collected or you agree to it.
We may also disclose information where required or permitted by law.
6. Overseas disclosure
Some service providers are located outside Australia or store and process data overseas. These locations include the United States, Singapore, Belgium and other parts of the European Union, as well as countries where providers or their subcontractors operate.
We take reasonable steps to use reputable providers and protect personal information. Overseas providers may be subject to privacy laws that differ from Australian law.
7. Your choices
- Unsubscribe – click the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any newsletter.
- Forms – you can check and correct pre-filled information before submitting a form.
- Cookies – you can block or clear cookies through your browser settings.
- Analytics – you can use Google’s Analytics opt-out add-on.
- Ad personalisation – you can manage ad preferences through your Meta or Facebook settings.
- Access, correction or deletion – email us to request access to, correction of or deletion of personal information we hold about you. Some information may need to be retained for legal, accounting or operational reasons.
- Complaints – if you have a privacy concern, contact us first and we will respond within a reasonable time. You may also contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner if it has jurisdiction over the matter.
8. Data retention and security
Newsletter information is generally kept while you remain subscribed. After you unsubscribe, we may retain a limited record so we can honour your request and avoid adding you again without permission.
Survey, poll, competition and giveaway responses are kept while needed to analyse results, publish reports, administer the promotion and resolve reasonable follow-up issues. Identifying details are deleted or de-identified when they are no longer needed. Combined and de-identified results may be kept as historical statistics.
Partial form responses are handled in the same way as completed responses. Transaction records are retained as required for accounting, tax, fraud prevention and legal purposes. Analytics information is retained according to our settings and the practices of the relevant provider.
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, but no website, email system or cloud service can be guaranteed completely secure.
