1. Who we are

“Ipswich Insider” is an independent newsletter and website published from Ipswich, QLD, Australia. Our site lives at https://ipswichinsider.com.au.

2. The short version

We collect only the personal information needed to:

  • send you the newsletter you asked for,
  • understand (in aggregate) how people use our site, and
  • measure how well our ads perform.

We never sell your data.

3. What we collect and why

  • Newsletter sign-up details – your email address and (optionally) name let us deliver emails you request. Legal basis: consent + contract.
  • Browsing data – pages viewed, approximate city/state, device type and referrer help us improve the site and fix bugs. Legal basis: legitimate interests.
  • Marketing/advertising events – Meta Pixel records actions such as page views or link clicks so we can see whether ads worked. Legal basis: consent where required.
  • Email engagement – opens, clicks and bounces gathered by ConvertKit improve newsletter content and deliverability. Legal basis: legitimate interests.

*“Legal basis” refers to grounds allowed under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and, where they apply, the GDPR/UK GDPR.

4. How we collect data

  • Google Analytics 4 counts visits and anonymises IP addresses by design. Data-retention is limited to 14 months and ads personalisation is off unless you opt in.
  • Meta (Facebook) Pixel lets us measure Facebook/Instagram ad performance. “Limited Data Use” is enabled for California visitors and we do not send sensitive fields.
  • ConvertKit stores subscriber details and tracks email opens/clicks. Double opt-in is on; every message includes an unsubscribe link.
  • First-party cookies remember preferences (such as closed pop-ups) for up to 30 days.

5. Who we share data with

  • Google LLC – website analytics (servers in the USA/EU).
  • Meta Platforms Inc. – ad performance measurement (servers in the USA/EU).
  • ConvertKit LLC – email-list management (servers in the USA).
  • Pressable (Automattic Inc.) – managed WordPress hosting and security (servers in the USA/EU).

All providers are bound by contracts that require them to safeguard personal information.

6. International transfers

Because we use overseas providers (currently in the USA and EU), personal information may be stored on servers outside Australia. We take reasonable steps to ensure those providers comply with Australian Privacy Principle 8.

7. Your choices

  • Unsubscribe – click “Unsubscribe” at the bottom of any newsletter.
  • Cookie/Pixel opt-out – block cookies in your browser or install Google’s Analytics opt-out add-on.

  • Complaints – if we can’t resolve a concern, you may contact the OAIC.
