4IP was Ipswich’s very own radio station.

It hit the airwaves in 1935 and ran for decades.

Now look at the letterhead again. See the phone number? It’s just 267. Three digits. Ipswich had fewer than 1,000 phone lines in the whole city.

And if you wanted to send them a telegram? The address was just “Fourip”

At the bottom of every letter: “Wherever you go there’s radio.”

At its peak in the late 60s and 70s, 4IP was one of the top rating stations in Australia. It eventually moved to Brisbane, changed names a few times, and ended up as 4TAB, a horse and greyhound racing service.

So if you picked option B, you weren’t completely wrong. Just 50 years too early.
